Flowers, plants, trees... and our inspiration! Rain got us thinking: how do you keep your stuff dry? Especially when it is raining cats and dogs. Therefore we created four new series to keep your personal belongings 100% waterproof while cycling.

With the Urban Dry, Miles, Magnolia and Noir bags, Basil introduces a unique line of waterproof bike bags to the market. The collections have been developed in such a way that your things stay dry even during heavy downpours, without any concession to the look of the bags. Basil once again proves that fashion and function can indeed go hand in hand. The water resistance of the new bags was achieved with a combination of waterproof material and a watertight construction.

The water resistance of materials is described in terms of the water column. This is the amount of water (in mm per cm2) that the material can withstand before it starts letting in water. The material can be classed as waterproof with a water column of 800mm or better. Various materials used for the new collection go up to a water column of 100.000mm!

A waterproof construction consists of the finish of the connecting seams and the closures of the bag. All the Basil waterproof bags feature welded or taped seams and have a folding or roll top closure. In addition, the Miles bags have a waterproof interior bag and zips.

Because of their materials and construction the Urban Dry, Miles, Magnolia and Noir bags meet, among other things, the IPX3 norm, a frequently used standard. However, Basil went one step further and has drastically increased the test requirements and ‘translated’ them into the duration that you can cycle in the rain in different types of showers.

Result: with the new waterproof lines of Basil bags you can cycle in a normal rain shower for up to 24 hours before your things get wet! This way Basil gives you even more freedom to determine when and where you take your bike.
